In a City Council meeting in March, the San Jose City Council unanimously approved the Local Tenant Preference Policy. This groundbreaking policy mandates that new or acquired affordable housing projects funded by the city allocate 15% of homes for low-income residents residing in the same district, and 20% for those from districts with high displacement rates.

A huge shoutout to our agencies and community leaders for their tireless efforts in mobilizing our community to rally and ensuring our voices were heard at City Hall. This achievement marks the culmination of years of hard work by community organizers. This becoming a reality is truly something to be proud of! Yet, our work is far from over. This policy represents just one step towards achieving housing justice for all!
